  • Nice score!!

  • Is the 40% just for halves? What about the quarters and dimes?

    Jerry
  • 40% is just for the halves..all other denominations lost their silver content in 1964

The 40% silver half contains .1479 Troy Oz of fine silver. It has an 80% silver and 20% cladding
on a mostly copper core. The metal was used on circulation and SMS/proof issues from 1965 to
1970 and on the '70 half made for mint sets. The same composition was used for the BU and proof
silver issues of bicentennial coins in 1976 (quarter, half, and dollar) and was used for the BU and
Proof Ike coins of '71 to '74. There are reported to be '71 halfs, '77 halfs and a couple other coins
of this composition. The half contains about 92c worth of silver at today's price.
