Opinions about ICG's authentication/grading of Roman coins sought.

How good a job do they do on authentication/classification? How about grading? What kind of market acceptability do their ancients have? I'm just getting back into the field after a long absence and am researching the current state of the market.

  • I can't tell you about the ancients but I have had very little success crossing ICG slabbed Canadian coins.

Ditto. I decline to buy ICG Canadian coins unless I can hold them in my hand, grade them myself, and pay a decent price for the grade I think the coin deserves.

Excellent reputation for ancient coins. I have sold a few ICG Roman coins and have done quite well on them. Also, I believe they are the only service that grades and slabs ancients on a regular basis.

The last four coins I have broken out of other service holders, mainly ICCS, have come back the same grade from ICG.
