SMR PRICING

Just a thought, it seems to this collector, that the SMR price guide seems to be "somewhat out of whack".
Just look at the prices of the cards sold via various locations (ebay, dealers, shows, etc.) and compare them to the SMR guide.
This is especially true of the vintage PSA 8 grades, not to mention the few 9's that are out there.
In addition, no "adjustment" is made for vintage Yankee, Mets, Bklyn Dodgers, Early LA Dodgres, NY Giants and such.
Also, take a look at the recent sell prices of PSA 8 cards for the period 1966-69.
Anybody agree, also in my opinion, 8's (vintage) seem to be selling for 2x or more of list price.

In the USA all men are created equal but some are more equal than others....

Remember, SMR reflects the balance of ALL sales ... from the bargains on eBay to the high prices charged by many dealers. If you look at merely eBay sales, SMR seems out of whack on the high side. If you look at certain dealers' web sites, or their tables at shows, SMR seems too low.
I agree that SMR is often off-base, in that many cards have not been updated in a long time, so it is not a good barometer of recent trends (even if you allow for the publishing lead time). But I would not say it is overall too high or too low. Depends on the card and the place you're shopping for it.
