  • I try to make the scan bigger but it loses to much clarity. These things are so small .

Both the 1/4 $ and $1 gold are cool!

Just a technical question: are those holes awful close to the edge? I wonder if those things broke off on the edges a lot?

Perhaps this is a questions for jewelers?

The holes do "break through" the edge occasionally. In fact, my only other fractional gold piece is like that- I will have to get it fixed before I can put it on my hat. Just got it from 100proof1957- neither he nor I know if it is real or not, but I like it, regardless. He wouldn't let me pay him for it, so here's a public thanks to him.

I had a 3c silver that broke through after I hung it on the vest- the remaining little thread of metal was just too thin to hold up. image

Here's one of my favorite hat pieces. It's definitely seen better days, but I love it all the same. It's the only $3 piece I've ever owned. Even holed and abused, I had to pay something like $160 for it. The damage on the obverse resulted from some doofus trying to remove a counterstamp- I wish he'd left it alone. A countermarked $3 would've been far cooler than a brutally damaged $3.

  • Ahh, holed gold, the finest of the holey coins. My grandma left me a holed gold dollar which takes the prime spot on the front of my hat.

And (if Lord M. doens't mind) I have a photo of him with neat clothing image

We were just lookin' at your holed coin webpage earlier tonight, Carl. Somebody else wants to get into the holeys and asked me how the fishing swivels were attached to my vest. I didn't have any closeups, so I showed him your hat. image

  • Damn Goldrush, yours looks like it blasted smooth in a bead blasting cabinet. What's up with that?
