Forgive me for being ... logical... why not look at the odds on your box and compare them to an auction for a hobby box?

  • Who cares about the odds, you'll probably use your "HOT PACK SECRETS" anyways.

LOL; was surprised he bought the whole box in the first place
    without using his secret.
  • It would be even funnier if the retail box he received wasn't sealed and all the packs were already searched. LOL

  • the thing is that i haven't yet got the box in the mail, so i hav no odds 2 compare. also, im not gonna respond 2 those fat f *cks that got so pissed off over baseball cards, pretty sad. image so if any1 knows if the average odds in a retail box, are the same, or different from those on a hobby box, please respond. but if u r a f *ck that wants 2 bicker about pack searchers, then kill urself, b4 u say anything. thanks a lot! -will-

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.
  • Hey I may be a f???, but I take exception to the fat part.
How about a slightly overweight f???.

  • No the odds will be alot different on the retail box.. I think GU or Auto run 1:24 on the retail instead of 1:8 (I think on the Hobby)
  • well, thanks for the ppl that HELPED. and i did "grow out of my pack searching phase" if u wanted 2 kno, i cant find a place near me that actually HAS any good packs, and i tried once and failed terribly. just in case u wanted 2 kno, i completely gave up on it a few weeks ago.

I still don't understand the glamour of opening new packs. The stuff is all mass produced junk. 99% of it is completely worthless, especially base sets, which is what collecting was founded on. Who cares about a card some 20 year old kid who has never thrown a pitch or swung a bat in the majors signed, or one that contains a swatch of his jersey, or sliver from his bat? Heck, why all of a sudden, are retired HOF guys signing some these cards and people are overpaying for a card with their autograph on it when they have already signed thousands and thousands of cards in the past? It's absolutely ridiculous, and in due time, the market for this stuff will dry up, as people will get fed up with how many cards there are, how much packs cost, and how worthless the majority of cards are that they pull from the packs. Things were going just fine back when there was just Topps, and then Fleer & Donruss. Even Score and Upper Deck in 1989 were fine, but today, there are 44 different sets listed in Beckett, with as many as 55 subsets in a particular set. Absolutely absurd.

Eye want 2 kno when you r going 2 grow out of ur writing-like-Prince phase.
  • he's just a kid (from what he says, i've never met him so i don't know for sure), so lets at least give him some credit for coming on here with us old, fat, farts (we'll pretend thats the word he used). we should steer him in the right direction, not punish for mistakes i'm sure we all have made in this hobby. even i was searching packs of 90 score looking for the b/w bo card, when i was young and didn't know better.

WILLA, you have rubbed a few people the wrong way, so you can expect a little rough up, but insults and f words won't help. i have seen people get kicked off for saying less, on top of insulting people, the mods will not have it. i have learned more about this hobby from the great people on these boards in the short time i've been here, than from the 10 years when i was learning from dealers, shows, and beckett magazine. you are new, and most of these cats are well respected, and know their stuff. be careful what you say.

  • some ppl should get kicked off, not for cursing, but for being a*sholes (sorry there was no other way 2 put it)
  • I hope that wasn't directed at me. I was only poking a little fun. image

I can't believe I'm about to say this, because it sounds so much like my father...

You need to understand that some people are going to be sphinters. It's just like in real life. You'll come across some real rough ones...bosses, landlords, etc. But being a sphincter isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I keep thinking about my Army drill sergeant. He was a world-class a**hole. But after I graduated from boot camp and moved on with life after the Army, I've come to realize that I learned a lot of useful stuff from him that has helped me out. And so it goes here...the people you might think are sphincters may just turn out to be the best friends you'll have in this hobby. Don't take it personally, and the earlier instances will eventually be forgotten.

Welcome to the group...I hope you stick around a while.

I think you may have "mis-read" your audience here and got ruffed up a bit. If you come to that acceptance and want to be part of the group - I can only say one thing - what if we start the whole clock over right here:

I think what you meant to say was "some ppl should get kicked off, not 4 cursing, but 4 being a*sholes" image

  • well, i found out the hard way, retail boxes have much worse odds then hobby boxes. i pulled a kaz matsui rookie jsy card (at least i think its a rookie, this set hasn't been priced yet in beckett, i mean it is his rookie year). thats about is, and 2 insert cards. i couldve had an extra sweet sig auto and maybe anothe g/u for the same price, if i just oserved the auction a little better. next time ill check twice b4 bidding.
