<< <i> So are they saying not to use flips at all and use the cardboard mylar 2x2s? I can still use the non pvc safe-flip right? >>
Cardboard mylar 2x2s? Do not use these either for any coin you do not want degraded over time. Why? The cardboard dust is sulfur containing paper which will eventually migrate to the surface of the coin through static charges. Once there, it will absorb moisture again and again and it will leave tiny black specs eventually.
Yes to Saflips® for preservation. For crown size coins it's best to use the 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" mylars, since they'll split the small 2 x 2s fairly easily.
I've submitted coins to PCGS in the standard 2 x 2s, but the larger crown size mylars do greatly lessen the chance of mishandling when you consider they have to take the coin in/out up to 3-4 times during the process.
