1921 Morgan (PL) Question

DRUNNERDRUNNER Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭✭✭
Looking for advice on how to value a 1921 Morgan 65 PL. 1921s are common as dirt . . but the PL makes it interesting. Not looking for a number . . . just any search sources I may be unaware of.

Just got my submissions back from PCGS and I've done the basic Teletrade/Heritage/PCGS searches . . . but the pops show just 9 (1 is mine) on this coin and PLs just don't show up (well, a few NGCs do). I have no idea what I've got . . . other than to think it is going to help my Registry set . . .

Any other searches for PCGS "PL" 1921 Morgans I can do to get an idea what I have???

Thanks . . .

Congrats on the nice grade, I'm not sure what the value would be but one of the Morgan guys should be able to chime in with that info.

    Thanks . . .

Looked nice when I picked it up . . . in one of those old "Blanchard" sealed flips. Thought it might 65 . . . and it did have a PL look to it. Ended up getting lucky . . .

    The price was right.

Aren't the 1921 Morgans pretty scarce in PL and damn near nonexistent in DMPL?

Or am I getting it mixed up with the 1945 Mercs that are so elusive in FB?

  • I'm showing 10 right now in the PCGS pops. Yours must have been the tenth, or they added one since you submitted. Even though it's the most common Morgan date, there really aren't that many that are better. That's going to give you good points in your set for a while to come, since upgrading is likely going to be difficult given the numbers.

    Edit:

    Yes, Lord M,

There is only 1 MS65 DMPL listed in the pops. There are 184 MS66, 1 MS66PL, 6 MS67 and 1 MS67 PL, and that's all. Like I said, upgrading this piece is going to be tough. He's got a real winner on his hands.

Good eye and great score on the grade and pl.

    I recently purchased a pcgs 63 pl for $150.

It's a good registery coin. It is hard to price since there are so few around.

That's a tough coin in PL, and semi-impossible in DMPL I think it's got to be worth $500 anyway.
    When in doubt, don't.
