Can you tell..I can't ... clear "S" or filled "S" (SBA and Lincoln)

As has been said many times before,the clear "S" designation is a misnomer when it comes to 1981.The "S" is clear on all of them.The difference is that it looks shaved flat.I hope this helps you understand.

Are there any other diagnostics on the SBA.. I have a type I slabbed and it looks a little different.

Just the opposite. The SBA is a Type II and the Lincoln is a Type I

See how the S on the SBA looks a little squashed in shape while the Lincoln's mintmark seems to be more symmetrical.

I have always maintained that there are actually 3 types of mintmarks on the 81. Type I is clear and not easily confused with the other 2. While Type II and my -- Type III are sometimes hard to distinguish. One of the easiest diagnostics is that squashed look.

These are the Type III and Type II. The S on the Lincoln is a Type I. Compare, the Lincoln is neat and round.

One thing that seems to mess with people is that the 79 type ll is the 81 type l.

I just noticed another post that mentions a 1981- clear "s" proof set. Were all the coins in the set clear "s" or are there sets that have both type I and II. The pics I posted are from the same proof set.
