1904-S Barber halves

I will have the Eliasberg 1904-S half in PCGS 66 at Long Beach next week. It will be pedigreed to my set, and then at the US Coins table for viewing.

So those that cannot make the Long Beach Showdown in February where the 3 finest Barber half sets at PCGS will be displayed, come on down and see this one.

    TahoeDale,

I wish I could be thier to see the three of yall's sets, that is going to be some spectacle. The 04-s half is one of my favorite Barber coins of all time. I know several of the other barber folks wish the same. Hopefully one day I can get myself into a PCGS MS 04-s half.

  • You're changing the pedigree?? Are you more famous than Eliasberg? I know I'm probably wrong, but will it wreck the value of the coin to remove the Eliasberg pedigree?? I would think the coin would command higher prices with the Eliasberg name on it. To a few people who do pedigree research it probably won't matter, but most people won't bother to do the digging. I think it may be a mistake to remove that famous name from the holder.

    Sliderider,

You are absolutely correct, and the Eliasberg name will stay on the insert. It will look like

    Eliasberg/Friend

Sorry I didn't mention the new wording to include the previous collector, especially since it is from the Eliasberg collection.

FYI I bought the 04 s as well as the 96 o out of the Eliasberg sale.I then sold them to Ed Zimmerman through Don Snyder at B and M.These are both very nice original coins.

    Stewart,

Thanks for the provenance. We have a complete history with

    1. US Mint
    2. J.M. Clapp (November 1904)
2a. John H. Clapp, Clapp Estate
    3. Eliasberg (1942)
    4. Blay (April,1997)
    5. Zimmerman
    6. Friend (2004)

And it is a real nice original coin. I will let you meet up with her in Long Beach.
