CDROMs shipped for Liberty Seated Dime Varieties Web-book

Just a short note to the membership of the Liberty Seated Dime Varieties web-book that the CDROM accompanying the three year membership has shipped today. The CDROM captures the full content of the web-book for personal use on a PC or laptop without the need for internet access. Anyone interested in previewing the new book on Liberty Seated Dime Varieties can access the web-book at www.seateddimevarieties.com.

I've purchased a number of really nice new PCGS mint state dimes this week. They will be posted throughout the weekend. Check the Recent Updates link to see the new dimes. One of the new purchases in an 1878 Type 1 reverse dime in PCGS64 that is going to be resubmitted. 1878 Type 1 reverse dimes in unc are very hard to find. Luckily an internet dealer listed an nice scan of this wonderful coin and it was a no brainer.......

    Gerry-

D'ja think PCGS would slab that dateless seated dime I showed you if you could attribute the date image

Apparently PO01 coins are now worth big bucks image

    Len,

If a slabbed PO01 is worth big bucks, then I'm a rich man! I have a bag of junk PO01 potential coins in my desk drawer. Could not resist an "unsearched" bag of 120 seated dimes on ebay. Yeah, unsearched all right. Just a lot of junk coins, but most with dates.

Here is the 1878 T1 reverse in PCGS64. I'm in love with this cherrypick. Spent years looking for a high grade mint state example and voila la, one appears at random. Just goes to show that one must be persistent, they are out there and you will be eventually rewarded!

    Gerry,
That coin is extremely well struck, especially the veins in the leaves. Sure it's not a proof? If so, how?

120 seated dimes at one shot is pretty cool even if they are all junk.

Kurt Krueger once handled a lot of 200 seated dollars - all pulled from circulation in the 1900s and mostly common dates. If I recall correctly, he dumped 'em all on a table in a messy pile and took a photo for an auction catalog cover. That would make for a cool screen saver!

Bowers, in the early 90s, auctioned off a couple seated dime sets sold as single lots. Somehow I doubt your ebay deal consisted of a whole set image

    Barry,

Only one die pair for 1878 proofs and the reverse is a Type II. If you saw this coin in person, the frost and the condition of the fields would immediately indicate a business strike. It is still one heck of a great strike. At some point, I will send to PCGS for an upgrade shot.....

    Barry,

If you look at the fields within the shield, you'll see that they look awfully frosty and not mirrored. That's also a telltale sign to distinguish a PL from a PF.

How about calling this one the "deeply cut veins" variety image

You could give Barry credit for the name.

    Dismeguy-

You should weigh all those coins. It would be interesting to see how much silver has been removed just from normal circulation.

P.S. Did you feel like you were dissing Kam when you spread your ebay coins on his book image
