A couple cards Chris Renaud might like

While surfing through ebay, I came across these 2 auctions:

#1

#2

The first card looks a little tilted but still nice enough to fit in the holder. It amazes me to think of all the necessary components to exist for cards like these to get PSA 10's, like sharp blades and the factory, perfect packaging from topps, and the card must almost never be held by human hands throughout the years. Anyways, both cards look incredible. I wonder if Chris will see them throw one of his "Bill Gates" bids on it. Does anybody know if he is still actively upgrading his set?

I thought the same thing about Mint/Gem Mint cards from the 1940s and 1950s.

Wow, I didn't check that. I remember him saying that it was a set that he would probably never sell.
  • Chris hasn't been buying any 1971s lately from what I have seen. I am not sure why. However, there are several new players who will probably bid the card up really high. Actually, the last card Chris added or updated was a PSA 7 Carty that I sold him because he was missing it. I am curious if his set is no longer active because he retired it or because it is has been too long since he updated it. Maybe he will respond to this thread and let us know.
  • According to PSA, they will only remove a set from the current list if it under
10% complete and has been inactive for 12 months. Based on that, it would
appear that Chris has removed the set himself. I too would be quite interested
to get the story from Mr Renaud.

    Yeah...

That is pretty interesting... I hadn't noticed it either until you guys brought it up.

Maybe Chris is gearing up to by a Caribbean island or something and could use a little extra cash!

Hey Chris! Whats the story on your 71 set?

  • I follow the 1971 set pretty closely and didn't catch it when Chris removed his set from current list. It appears that it is being sold off, or at least pieces of it are, by Keith Abrams. There are several 10's listed on Ebay right now that came from Chris's set.

I wonder if the confrontation that he had a while back with another Registry member soured him on collecting - or at least collecting for the registry?

I certainly hope not, but I for one hope Chris stops by the board because it's quite evident a lot of folks followed his '71 Topps set. image

    WInpitcher,

Glad to hear that wasn't the reason. I'd hate to lose him on the boards because of anything like that. I've dealt with him before and he was very easy to work with.

He has seemed to be collecting more vintage lately - so I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't one of the factors.

  • i hate to see a set of that caliber broken up. the number of psa 9's he had in the set was mind boggling, especially for a guy like me.
    recently , i've been through 1000's of raw 71's without a trace of a psa 9.
  • Frank's guess was right, I have been enjoying collecting smaller, more rare vintage sets that I can actually look at, put in frames, etc. display in my house and offices; and the huge modern sets just seemed to sit in boxes in a closet or safe and not be enjoyed (you can see that I continue to update my older sets). People can contact Keith if there are cards from the 71 set (or 72-80) that you would want to purchase offline or if you have early 50 Bowman's or 53 Topps to trade in PSA 8 or better. The smaller sets are also more manageable given that I have been spending a lot of time in my place in Israel which decreases the time I have to handle the larger sets.
Collector of baseball PSA sets from the 1970's & hockey rookie cards; big New York Rangers fan (particularly now that they are sleeping with the enemy with Holik and Kaspiritus). Also starting to collect 53 Bowman Color as I think they are the most beautiful cards I have seen.
  • Chris, Keith who? and how can I contact him?

    Thanks,
    Don

  • Chris,
i think you should also add the 1970 set to your liquidation list image I think i know someone who would be interested.

glad to hear you are still in the game.

    Chris Renaud-
Since you like challanges and small regional sets, you might be interested in the 1971 Topps Greatest moments set? The 1971 Topps set is difficult, but pales in comparision versus the 1971 Topps greatest moments set. Not only is the Greatest moments set harder to put together, but is more expensive in a straight PSA 8 to make. A great set that could be displayed on the wall of your office.
I do have five duplicates in PSA 8 if you are interested in starting this. image
Best of luck on your 53 Bowman.
