Here's an expensive 1923-S Redfield Peace $

Why so expensive?

Redfield 1923-S Peace $ -- $460 final price

The color, the pedigree, the possibility of a MS65. While it does have a nice strike, it's probably more likely a MS64

64 $225
65 $6,500
66 $17,500

    Frattlaw,

I don't know about you, but that coin looks like at has an excellent shot at 65. Nice original color, good luster, apparently clean surfaces... Their does appear to be a hit going southeast from the mouth, but that's all I can see.

$460 is a pretty honest buy when you consider the risk/reward quotient.

That's a very nice piece. Forget the published bids on coins like that, I've seen really nice high end MS64 key and semi key date Peace dollars sell for multiples of bid, and rightly so. Dates like the 23-S. 24-S, 25-S, 28-S, can all sell for top money for premium MS64 examples.

That particular example is a nice original flashy 64 with good eye appeal and a decent strike and a bit of nice color......that price was not out of line at all IMO. Remember that most 23-S's come flat as a pancake with so-so lustre.

Sounds about right for what appears to be a solid 64 with a small shot at 65. I say "small" primarily because the huge jump in value from 64 to 65 will make it *very* difficult for a 64-could-be-65 to get into a 65 holder.

Still, to quote a price based on the grade listed in an old Paramount holder was pretty shady, IMO.
