"This Young Century Will Be Liberty 's Century"

Straight from the President 's mouth. They should put Lady Liberty back on our coinage.

YES its time. All these presidents just give the feel of a big beaucratic republic of big brother watching. Lets get back to our basic ideals of freedom with a beautiful Libertyimage

Now we're talking! Don't forget the Merc Dimes, though! But I'd say put the Draped Bust on the dollar - gotta have some bust coins somewhere. And while they're at it, add a $5 coin with St. Gauden's $10 design on the obverse and the $20 eagle for the reverse. None of these low-relief things either! image

I agree, George. Everybody wants rid of the presidents and wants to use old images. Where is the creativity? How about new portraits of Liberty? I say the first step is to bring back the position of Chief Engraver then let's get some new figures of Liberty.

I'd love to see, as said in another thread, the next St. Gaudens to design a new series of beautiful coins with the allegorical Miss Liberty. I didn't much care for reusing the Walker's design on the SAE and I didn't care for the buffalo dollars -- not because I don't like the designs; I very much do -- but because these are old, classical designs that should be retired.

Let's bring the beauty back into coinage (tempered by the modern realities of needing to strike up billions of coins every year), but let's have some new, original creativity. Reusing old designs is showing a lack of creativity and original thinking -- much like Hollywood producing sequel after sequel, remake after remake, and new movies based off of existing comic books. At some point, the lack of new thinking is tiresome, IMO.

Let some new talent come in and produce some wonderful designs. I'm sure he/she is out there somewhere.
