More begging for cameo pics [a follow up to yesterday's post]

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,104 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yesterday I posted that I wanted to see pics of cameo lincolns and frankies. The response from members was a treat.

So..................., I need and want and now humbly entreat you and beg for more.

Please post pics of cameo Washies, Roosies, Jeffy's and, dare I ask, cameos of earlier classic proofs (Walkers, Mercs. Buffs, IHC, Barbers and earlier series). I shall check this thread again tomorrow morning to gaze upon the pics you post. Sanction II

Geez, I feel all stupid chasing those pics with a couple of modern Roosies... but I'll doit anyway. More recent goodies from the local stores, I think the '68 has some real potential.

Up late, could not resist checking for responses to my post now instead of tomorrow morning. Stunning coins all. Words can not adequately describe Stuart's 1898 toned cameo morgan. I won't even try. I expect that my collecting interest will soon broaden to include pre 1950 cameos [whether I can afford same is another story]. A cameo type collection would be a lofty goal. Has anyone tried same that any of you know of?

100Proof1957, I looked at the NGC #2 1957 proof set pics. Very nice penny. Per chance does your best 1957 CAM lincoln look like the one pictured at NGC?

Seanq, your 1968 Roosie is one of the nicest, if not the nicest I have seen. Over the past 6 years of looking, I have only found two 1968 CAM Roosies. You have a very rare coin (IMHO). How did you acquire it? Was it from a 1968 proof set that you purchased or was it a single that you found? If you do not mind me asking how much did it cost you? For the two I have found, one was in a proof set (cost $6.00) and the other was a single ($2.00).

I find it amazing that coins that are 40 to 150 years old were made with such high quality. It shows how talented and creative humans can be, even with low tech (compared to today) production methods. The finest cameos are clearly works of art.
  • Sanction,

That number 2 registry set at NGC IS mine !

Huh, thanks for filling me in on the '68. I had a feeling it was tough but not quite that tough. At least I feel better now about including it in a thread full of cameo proof Barbers and Morgans. image

It came from a $6 set I bought at a local store. I actually picked up two sets, both with really nice cents and dimes, I posted the best of the two cents in your other thread. The second dime was probably a CAM, where the one I pictured here should be a DCAM. This one will eventually go west to PCGS for grading.

At my desk this morning and checking my post of yesterday afternoon for the second time. Great pics all. The 1898 Barber dime and the 1829 Capped Bust dime are yummy. Yummy also to the darkside coins. QV has never looked so good.

For the pre 1950 Cameos pictured, would you follow up with market values for same? I am sure some are at least in the 5 figure range (boo hoo, they are out of my league at this time).

I should have suspected that the #2 NCG 1957 proof set belonged to 100Proof1957 (Do you collect non 1957 proof sets?).

I do not know the pops for 1968-S CAM/DCAM proof Roosies, however, regardless of the pops and regardless of the market prices for this date, they are very difficult to find.

Still curious about whether anyone knows if any collector is putting together a type set of cameos. If so, it would be interesting to hear the details.

Thanks again for responding and posting pics.
