20 mm wide, lightweight metal of some kind, darker than these pics.

Obverse says: STADT TRIER

Reverse says: KLEINGELDERSTATZMARKE

STADT TRIER

hey Auldfartte...I forgot to add that many cities in Germany had this type of coinage for use during WW1.

German notgeld from the city of Trier. Lamb 532.3 10 pf no date zinc 8 sided. It is a common piece worth between $2.50 and $5. Their are 5 major varieties from the city and one of them, L532.6, comes in three sub-varieties. The two rarest are 532.1 a 1 pf, and 532.4 a no date 50 pf. They are around $10 to $15. These were issued around 1917.

In Menzel's catalog, this is M13373.3 and 400,000 were struck. According to Menzel, there are 6 varieties of just this 10 Pf. It was designed by the famous engraver L. Chr. Lauer of Nürnberg. A fairly similar design, also by Lauer, was used by Hermann Haas, a merchant in Trier; both sides have the same basic approach of the reverse of yours, with the denomination on both sides, but "HERMANN HAAS * TRIER" on the obv. and 3 stars replacing "STADT TRIER" on the rev.
