The mailman brought me a very cool and unexpected surprize today. This 1864 Indian head cent with 90 degree rotated dies was a guess the grade prize courtesy of IrishMike. This is a neat coin and it will make a great addition to my Indian cent collection.image Thanks again Mike.

Lakes- I used my wifes scanner for the image. Kinda hard to tell the coin is a proof and the "L" on the ribbon is difficult to see because of the poor image quality.image

My grandparents were from County Cork ...

All jesting aside, the color image is very clear and although the image is small, its alot better than alot of other copper coins I've seen .

Very nice and I'm not too sure if it was really a give-away image

This coin is one of several I have hoarded over the years, most of them are 64's and 65's as you tend to find these errors as well as die clashes and other varities that (cough) true collectors get a kick out of. image This particular coin was found at a local coin show that is put on monthly in South Bend. It's a tiny show which gives you the opportunity to look at everything they bring. The dealers all know me and one of them saw this coin somewhere and grabbed it up for me. Unfortunately in all the years I have attended this show I have never seen a pattern coin for sale.

This is not only a fairly well struct coin but the die rotation makes it particularly special in my opinion. Mark you are very welcome as I know you are the type of collector that would appreciate it. I told you to expect a neat coin.

BTW I am not Irish, my wife is but the nick comes from the University not Heritage. Mark graduated from the same college as my two daughters. They broke a family heritage by attending Purdue but we have forgiven them.
