Feedback dilema !

I buy a 99 Clad Proof Set on Flea Bay and pay decent money for it.
It shows up with no COA and the SHQ holder is cracked.
I email the seller and get no reply at all.

  • Did the auction state that the COA was with the set? Was there a pic of the holder? Was it cracked then??
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on; I don't do these things to other people, I require the same from them."

Naw, and I've given a few of 'em.

Seems like a perfect neutral to me.

So quick to want to neg.

    1) COA wasn't stated....you assumed....you didn't ask the seller prior to bidding/auction close. Should not assume/expect it. Your bad, move on.

    2) Cracked case....wasn't shown. Did you ask condition? Did you ask for more pics? Again, your bad on this one as well.

That says to me, no negative.

    3) Is there a return stated in the auction? If so, use it.

    4) This is the week prior to a holiday. Person may be traveling, or, like me, have a death in the family. Try getting ebay contact info and calling. Don't just rely on emails (too often, they get trapped as spam or not seen).

    5) Does the person sell a lot of coins? Buy a lot of coins? If not, they may not know the significance (I know for a fact that if my brother were to sell any of my coins, he wouldn't know what to do/say. Even my mother wouldn't know much (and she collects coins to a degree). If they don't buy/sell a lot of coins, they may be ignorant.

    6) Give a link to the auction.....let's see if anyone recognizes the seller.

Overall, I don't think, unless it was a very well planned out duplicity, that a negative is deserved. Sounds like you received what was advertised, just not what you ASSumed. Right?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Seller didnt mention no COA or Damage to the holder.
I assumed the holder was fine and the COA was there.
I'm a big boy and i can eat the price,i just dont wanna neg the seller, cant really give him a POS either.

  • use 'contact seller' and call them - return item for refund if dissatisfied - hiding facts is like lying.

You don't leave any feedback. Pull their contact info and call them on the phone. Then you will know what type of feedback to leave. I've lost track of the number of potential problems I have avoided by simply calling the other party. Some people just aren't very good at written communication.

After viewing the link, I change my mind a bit (see what happens if you supply more details? image )

Call them. Get a refund/exchange. If they have more, they should exchange it and pay the shipping both ways, imho.

They have a "coin dept" so they are not neophytes like I thought they may be. They know people may want a COA...they know a cracked case isn't cool. They are not new to coins so they should have recognized these facts and stated them.

Call them...don't wait for a reply to email (they likely sell too much and have too many emails).
Get the exchange, if you can, and then move on.
Looking at some of their other auctions (currently 105 pages worth of upcoming auctions), their coin auctions show they don't know what they are doing or are just selling every coin they can (prices are cheap but coins aren't really worth it, imho).

I can't fault Proof for this. A bidder shouldn't have to ask a seller in every auction whether a proof set case is cracked. To the contrary, the seller has a duty to relay this information without prompting or inquiry.

I bid on proof sets, and unless the seller has informed me, I assume the case is intact. Seller is in the wrong.

That scan is like 10 dpi - I would have only noticed the crack after you pointed it out.

Give them a call and see what they will do for you.

  • Looks to me like the crack on the 25c holder starts above the 5 in 50 and extends to the right over the quarter that is there. Also looks like a small bullseye crack on the lower holder as well,to the left of the cent. I have 20/100 vision uncorrected and wear coke bottle glasses and even I could see those. Word of advice to all: Study those photos carefully before hitting the submit button.
