My latest Large Cent - CONTEST!

Thought you all might be interested in seeing my newest coin. To be precise, it's an 1817 Large Cent. Tell me what you think about the coin, grade, and the picture. Just for fun, try your hand at attributing it - I'll reveal the answer later on. BTW, I know the date is weak in the image, but the difference is obvious enough for the pictures to be sufficient for attribution.

    My guess: N6, R1 VG-10, average+ for grade

What happened to the "E" in "CENT"?

I don't collect large cents, so I won't worry about the attribution- but I agree with the VG grade. Also, is that some kind of PVC on the reverse around the ER in AMERICA?? image

  • Had me going for a bit there. I was using the Jack Robinson sale catalog for picture comparison I wasn't coming up with ANYTHING. The obv seemed to match 6, 7, or 8 but nothing had the leaf below F that far right. Then I saw my note in the catalog that the N-6 in the sale was misattributed and was actually an N-8. So I checked the Robbie Brown sale. Yup N-6.

N-6 it is! I attributed it staright form Newcomb's book - the distance between the 1 and 8 clued me into the proper attribution. I like it - it fits in nicely with the rest of my date set.
