Maybe I'm missing something here. Dennis Eckersley was obviously a very good pitcher and he was just inducted into the Hall of Fame, but why does his rookie card always go sky high in PSA 9? I've never seen it go for less than $500 or so. I bid more than $650 on this one, and I wasn't even the underbidder. Geez! SMR is $370, which I think is right around where it should be, and there are 22 straight 9's, which means the card isn't exactly rare. I just don't get it.

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I can almost guarantee the pop report on Eck 9's will nearly double in the next year. I think his first ballot HOF induction took a few by surprise, myself included. There are certain to be a lot more Eck 9's submitted now that Eck's bust is in Cooperstown.

<< <i>This is a good topic to expand on my question. I have two unopened boxes from 1976 Topps, should I crack one to try and hit the Eckersley and many others in hopes of a PSA 9/10? I believe the unopened box would fetch around $1650. What are the thought of the board?

Shane - sell it as a box, if you ever decide to sell. I cracked a vending case a few years ago, and got no Eckersley 9s. There are not many 9s in the set that would bring you $1,650 - and you are not going to do well with a single wax box. Best-
