what's a reasonable time to wait before neg'ing?

Another topic that i'm sure has been discussed before: looking for some opinions on what's a reasonable
time to wait before neg'ing an ebay bidder who has not paid or responded to your e-mails? And to make sure
this topic is appropriate for this forum-- let's say the bidder won a coin.

I play weekly baseball. I give two weeks before issuing their first strike, then I issue a strike each week thereafter. On strike three they get a neg. if they haven't responded....so I guess my answer to your question is four.

  • 1) PayPal Invoice & Personal Email 'end of auction' notice immediately after the auction ends
    2) if no contact within 3 days, another invoice from ebay, PayPal, and another personal email.
    3) after 2 weeks of no contact, email once more stating that the auction item will be re-listed in 2 days if no response.
    4) after the specified time has elapsed item is either re-listed, or offered to underbidder, and notice emailed to bidder that the transaction is void.
    5) Fee credits applied for
    6) negative feedback (after 90 days) only left if contact was made and payment never sent. If no contact then i just move on........

I'd say it's not hard and fast, but probably 2-3 weeks at least, assuming no reasonable reasons for the delay in payment. I'm still waiting for payment on an item that closed on the 22nd (bidder had a feedback rating of "1"). I'm getting a little irritated as it's a $400 item and needed to finance more buys, but I'll wait a few more days. I just pinged the winning bidder again. Still, depending on the circumstances, it may be better to just let it go unless you're ready to take a retaliatory hit.

I just use the eBay procedure

    1) After 3 days, send a payment reminder
    2) After 10 days, file a non-paying bidder dispute
    3) After 7 days, file for a credit and give them a non-paying bidder strike

I don't bother giving neg's because of a) retalitory negs and b) the strike is more important.

A buyer could have 20 positives and 15 negs and still be on eBay. 3 strikes and they are out.
