I think next year at National, I am going to arrive
with a Large, leather, Locked satchel/case with a
chain & handcuff attaching it to my arm...
and dark glasses on....
I will enter and proceed to walk right up and stand
right next to Mr. Mint (but not look at him or acknowledge him right away)
When he approaches to see what I have, I will ignore him,
stare off (like I am in the Secret service or something - checking perimiter)
and just tell him I am waiting for someone...
then as he begins to squirm and beg and pester,
I will be firm that a serious buyer is meeting me...
and I will carry this on until his head explodes because
I will NOT let him see what I have in the case!
(doesn't that sound like a hoot!)

Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Hey! I got one of those bobbleheads from him for 6 1954 Bowman ted Williams... sweet deal! See!
<< <i>Hey Kid, I would be willing to meet you and act as the buyer. You could come in with the big case handcuffed to you and while your standing by Minty's table I will walk over and ask if you brought the the "Big Find" that you had called me about. I then tell you that we should walk over to the side so I could look through your "find" and we then proceed to walk about 15 feet away to a spot off the side and then we can watch Minty sweat and try to break his neck in looking at what we are up to. It would not suprise me to see him walk over to us as his curiosity would get the best of him. >>
If you can get him to walk over to you, make sure you have genuine "Big Find" cards in the suitcase and make sure the cash available for purchase is about a third of what Mr. Mint would have eagerly paid. If he jumps into a bidding war, explain that you would have sold to him but you had never heard of him (that'll make him lose the rest of his hair). Act like you are considering his offer. Ask him for references. After some waffling, tell him that you really want to sell to someone knowledgable about sports cards, and therefore will carry out sale to original purchaser. Before purchaser walks away with "find", stand next to purchaser, fan out the money (preferably $100s) and ask Alan to take your picture.

carew4me,
There was an article about his recent Football find in the 9/10/04 issue of SCD. A guy in San Diego had almost every football card made prior to 1990 (he was 47 cards short). All the cards were organized in alphabetical order by team in nearly 400 albums. Took him 25 years to collect all of it.

BTW, I'm not advocating trying to injure the man, but maybe teach him a little lesson about pestering people and minding his own business.
