Card case: Maryland collector Dan Mckee has won a court verdict
against
Professional Sports Authenticator, the nation's largest-volume grading
service, in the case of a missing 1910-era baseball card.
Mckee sued PSA after a rare tobacco card that pictures Phillies
outfielder
Sherry Magee but has his name misspelled Magie -- an error that has
turned
the card into an item worth thousands of dollars -- came up missing.
Mckee contended he was certain he sent the card, worth an estimated
$6,000, to PSA to be graded in May 2003.
PSA President Joe Orlando countered that there was no evidence the
Magie
card ever showed at the company's offices in Newport Beach.
The situation grew contentious, and Mckee decided to go to court.
The judgment, mailed May 12, calls for Mckee to be awarded $4,800
plus
expenses of the $5,000 he was seeking.

Thanks for the newsflash. PSA President Joe Orlando already shared this with us on these servers when the verdict was handed down. But welcome to the boards anyway.

I must of missed that one. Are you sure you are not confusing this case with the appealed ruling on the '63 Rose rookie?
On that same train of thought, if they appealed one small claims court verdict recently and won, it would only make sense that PSA has or will appeal the McKee case. So I have a feeling this is far from over.
As for the article, I find it fascinating how some critical details were not mentioned such as McKee's failure to insure the package or send it registered or his confessed history of having a valuable item(s) stolen in the mail prior to this incident.

Perhaps I am. But the point remains that Joe Orlando has showed his company's warts and scars on this board in the past.
I wasn't aware of the other side of the story, though. Thanks for the extra info, dude.

What the article fail to mention is that PSA explicitly instructs customers not to place separate orders in a single large container for shipment. mckee violated these instructions.
The article also fails to mention that mckee cannot to this date produce a copy of the invoice or submittal form.
As with all controversial articles, there are two sides to every story. <<
I think McKee is full of crap myself and PSA got taken.
He said he sent in 26 cards total, but only 25 were in the box.
Granted, 26 cards is not a lot and wouldn't take that big of a box, so the infamous
Magie couldn't be tossed out as trash. What's in a box? Bubble wrap, card board cushion, packing peanuts, and/or newspaper. I better stop writing, cos I can go on and on.
here are there instructions. by the way there is a new step by step approach in the submission center which muct be new within the last few weeks
CLEARLY MARK the GRADING SERVICE you have selected on the OUTSIDE OF THE BOX. Mark in many spots. This will expedite the process or your order. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO VALIDATE THE GUARANTEED SERVICES. If you have MULTIPLE SERVICES in one box, please mark the outside of the box with the service with the fastest turnaround time.
