PCGS and Others' Success Rate on Full Band Designation for Mercs?

How often (or should I say how rarely) do the top grading companies leave off the full band designation on mercury dimes that collectors or different grading companies mark as FB?

I have had every single Winged Liberty that I thought should go FB, get the designation. I did submitt a 45p which went ms67, but I knew it would not go FB...

They just don't give me the numerical grade I expect!!!

  • Don't know about Mercs, but I have a few silver Roosies I want to send in soon and see if I get a FT designation from NGC. I'd rather have them holdered in NGC slabs because they hold the Roosies to a higher standard than PCGS, so if they go Full Torch, I know they will be fully struck and clean (on the reverse, at least).

    Lucy,

I know you're into Frankies, so you should appreciate this. NGC also holds Franklin halves to a higher standard when giving out the FBL designation. They use two sets of lines on the bell instead of just one, like PCGS does. So if you're looking for really nice, holdered Franklins, you should be buying them in NGC slabs.
