It's bad enough when they shake and bake a 1978 Kennedy. Do it to very nice, classic coins that are not common in this condition, and it makes me sick. This is why I really wish the toning craze would pass. I hate that market conditions encourage crap like this.

That toning I recognize. I braze copper almost daily in my line of work, and the toning on these coins appears to be a direct result of an oxy-acetylene torch. Looks like a type 17 size 2 tip at that.

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.
Is he a member of the new toning collectors club??
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
I don't get it. Some guys will spend 10X bid for a common 64 Morgan because it has pretty colors and then get all upset because these coins we "made" If pretty colors is what you collect then these should have you wet. They really are pretty regardless of how they got that way. Is it any different than sticking a Morgan in a sulfurpaper holder for 5 years?
I think its a shame that the money is so crazy for coins with pretty colors that this kind of crap goes on but It is inevitable this would happen

Yeah Right, what an idiot
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
And what, from just looking at that auction, tells you that the coin is fake? Or is every gold coin in the world that isn't in a PCGS or NGC slab fake?
Coynclecter - If collectors are buying color for the sake of color I understand your point. I hope the market hasn't come to that. By the looks of many of the IHs on EBay these days there are many sellers who think it has. I'd like to think that most copper collectors don't find the irregular electric tones on these appealing at all, and would prefer whatever they looked like before they were played with. You just can't create in one day the more subtle, natural looking color that MS copper acquires after long term storage in an envelope or album. And I bet these look even stranger in person. I assume the incerts in those airtites should be white. If so the images have been doctored a bit too.

I would also think that copper collectors wouldn't find this kind of stuff very appealing. Don't toned coppers get slammed regularly by the grading services??
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !

"1864 indian head proof ms66++rainbow colors cent penny"
Hmmmmm, all of 'em "proof ms66", Proof and MS 66, wow. I wonder who the third party grading service is.

Not likely - unless he joined the Bar BQ division!
