BU 1886 V-Nickel Price Help, Please

moosesrmoosesr Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭
Could someone give me the greysheet bid and ask for a NGC MS62/63 1886 v-nickel or the approximate price for a typical NGC/PCGS coin in MS61 to MS63? I am looking for a nice slabbed BU coin, not a GEM and the best I have found so far is a NGC MS62 for $1250 and a NGC MS63 for $1300. The MS62 coin has a much stronger strike than the MS63 coin, but from the prices I have seen in recent auctions both these coins seem to be priced too high.

topstuf is taking a poll on strike vs luster, any comments on which would be prefered on a v-nickel?

Is the V-nickel series finally starting to take off now that I am trying to buy some?

Thanks,

Charlie, if you are already aware of auction prices for similarly graded coins and you feel that what you are being quoted is too high, I'd suggest you pass.

CDN bid for an MS60 is $550 and it's $750 for an MS63. While the 1886 is a tough coin, I agree with you that the levels you're being quoted seem (quite a bit) too high.

A PCGS MS63 recently sold on Ebay for just over $900. I have seen a few in dealer stock for around $1,700 in MS64. Seems high, but if that is the rate, I have one for sale.

I was also wondering why the 1886 is cheaper than the 1885. It looks like the MS populations are about the same?
