1982 Sm. Date 1c Zinc in PCGS MS67RD....Rare?

I know you Lincoln guys can answer this......is a 82 Zinc, small date in PCGS MS67RD a coin worth holding?? I assume it's Zinc based on small bubble-like effect on the surface. Anyone have any idea about the mintage of the 1982's small vs. large date?? Thanks for your help, Chris

Wouldn't the bubble-like surfaces hinder the coin from grading MS67? I don't know since I do not grade Lincolns other than varieties, but it would seem to me that it would.

Richard- The "bumps" are only evident under 20x magnification. The coin is a 1982 PCGS MS67RD example. It is a small date and very easily identified as the "small" date. I'm just a little confused about the zinc and copper issues. I'm hoping one of the Lincoln experts can explain the difference between the P's in 1982.

First you go on the registry forum talking smack about the "inner circle" of 1992-D close AM owners and then you come over here looking for help on a newbie question like this? image

The above is my way of saying I'm not sure. image

It sounds like a good theory but I'm sure you know full well that the most expensive BU roll bid doesn't always translate to the most expensive coin at MS6_RD and above in this series. I would cross-reference the NGC pop report on the 7 varieties to find relative rarity and then look at closing prices on PCGS eBay auctions where the seller lists the variety to extrapolate a price level. As far as the plating isues showing under magnification; it seems like the only way to tell the difference once the coin is holdered by PCGS.

Rella- I'm always kidding about coins and enjoy "messing" with people about coins that are unknown to most! The secret society of the 92d Close AM Lincoln collectors asked me to pose a question about the 1982 Lincolns. BTW the 92d Close AM collectors are getting ready to sacrifice a 99 Wide AM Lincoln on the RR tracks in honor of the elongated Lincoln collectors club. image
