Has an authentic, RAW T-206 Wagner ever sold on Ebay?

I'm just curious. The fake ones about daily, but has an authentic, raw T-206 Wagner ever sold on Ebay? If so, for how much?

    No chance, eBay wouldn't allow it in raw form for that card. Anyone selling and/or buying that card would need it to be authenticated due to the rarity and value of it.
  • The famous PSA 8 was sold on eBay. it has been resold many times and it was once on eBay.

    Actually, a seller placing an authentic Wagner for auction is only shooting himself in the foot if it's not authenticated, whether by PSA or anybody else. I'd disagree that eBay wouldn't allow it, since the fakes show up there quite frequently, but failing to get it authenticated will only hurt a seller's chance of getting the best price.

    Huh? So by this rationale, you are saying that eBay knows all the fakes up for auction are not authentic cards yet they let the auctions continue?

    yeah, thats exactly what i thought.. but then again, most of the auctions i see contain the "im selling this as a reprint cuz i dont know if its real but it looks real like its really real old." line..

    Aren't there only 30 of them in existence.....at least I think I saw/read that somewhere.
    There's 20 something already graded by PSA.....1 is in Cooperstown on display (looks like it
    was runned over by a truck); so there may be a few stragglers around somewhere.
    Even if you held one in your hand and wasn't sure if it was real or found the last few remaining;
    wouldn't you want to send it in just to see if it was authentic rather than pawn it off
    on ebay. Even if it was real; no one would spend that kind of money raw wise from Ebay
    with all the other fakes/reprints floating out there on a daily basis. If anyone with good sense
    had one (found in grandpa's attic); send it in. Can't complain even if it got a PSA 1.

    I've come to conclusion that eBay doesn't care about fake cards being auctioned because if they were to patrol it seriously, it would cut into their revenue, and I think they have a lot of pressure on them from investors to keep revenues as high as possible under any circumsances.

    Speaking of fakes, anyone else notice that the market for fake 52 Topps Mantle's has dried up considerably? I started running my website about the 52 Mantle and selling access to it on eBay back in May, now that there have been over 1300 hits on the site, you don't see many fakes going for huge money any longer.

    That's a testament to your work. I set up my own website specifically because I wanted to help the hobby and educate new collectors. I started the ball rolling after I saw far too many eBay sellers claiming that cards were rare when they weren't (example: '87 Topps Bret Saberhagen, touted as "limited edition"). I figured that the time came to help prospective collectors get a chance to do their homework BEFORE they pulled the trigger on a big sale.

    Great job! I hope you can help keep the prices of '52 Mantle reprints down enough that the scam artists will realize they're not worth selling...though I suspect we both realize that they'll probably find a different outlet.
