Jason: Thanks for your post and your question about the condition of this 1884-S ANACS AU-55 Morgan Dollar.

I believe that you may have already seen this coin in person...

I've got the coin in front of me, and I'll give you an objective detailed description of it. Using PCGS grading standards, I'd say that this is probably accurately graded as an AU-55 that could possibly go as low as AU-53 on a very conservative day because of some light circulation hairlines which are evenly distributed in the unprotected field areas of the coin. I will say that it looks to be a higher grade than another 1884-S in PCGS AU-53 which I also own...

The coin has strong satiny (almost semi-PL) mint luster, and is nearly blast white with light wear on the highest points of Miss Liberty's hair and on the highest relief cheekbone area, with almost no noticeble wear on the reverse of the coin including full eagle's breast feathers. The coin appears to have previously been dipped to give it the blast white appearance.

Please drop me a PM if you have any other questions of if you would like to discuss it further. Thanks! image
