Carbon Spots

Do carbon spots on Red Lincolns tend to stay the same or get worse ?
this assumes the coin is slabbed.

in theory they should remain unchanged, but...thats in theory, not reality.

may be too how your store the carbon-spotted slabbed coins.
in the garage attic they might get worse...
  • Good question. I thin it depends on the storage method. I have seen them get worse and stay the same. I can't tell you for sure that they would do either from my experience.
  • Even if the spot itself stays the same, it can have an effect on any possible
future toning. Sometimes a ring of toning forms around a spot and kind of
acts as a bullseye to draw even more attention to itself! image
  • Can NCS remove them ?

I sent NCS a Indian cent about a year and half ago with a moderate carbon spot and had it forwarded to NGC. The spot was gone but you could see where it was- they did good on this part. The part I did not like was that the whole coin changed from a nice original color to a greasy messed with color- I refer to this as the NCS look. No more for me. mike
