Information concerning 1880/9-S VAM11 Morgan needed

I have this 1880/9-S VAM11 in my collection but can't seem to find any information about it's rarity or past sales. The only information I have found is NGC has graded 89 in mint state, 28 MS65, with 10 higher. As we know PCGS doesn't attribute VAMs. Also I can't find any sales of a MS65 either on Hertiage or eBay. Any onformation welcome.

Nothing in the Hot 50 Book at MS65 either. MS64 listed $50 - 70 dollar range. It does state the VAM-11 is not rare and the top 5 known specimens are in 66 holders. An exact quote:

It's importance to collectors is not its rarity, but rather its inclusion in the 1880-S overdate set.
  • Not worth anything, you should just give it to me !!!
  • GAT, you may already know this but Van Allen lists the 11 with a I-4 (major die variety) and R-3 (scarce, hundreds of thousands). However based on limited experience, those ratings don't always translate into big premiums.

    Hope that helps.

VAM 11 is also attributed by PCGS as 1880/9-S (coin #7122). Total population is about 350, including PLs and DMPLs. Most seen are either MS64 (131 examples graded) or MS65 (117 examples). There are also 42 MS66s, 10 MS67s, and one MS68 (which was mine at one time).

    MS64s sell for about $100, MS65s for about $250, and MS66s for $500.
    When in doubt, don't.
