Here is a crazy question: Does anyone know if Bill Gates collects or invests in coins?

I imagine there wouldn't be much challenge to it at that point but I was just curious if anyone knew?

  • I don't know if he does or not, but I think there would still be a challenge. It might be easier if you didn't have to worry about price, but putting together a well-matched collection could still take some effort.

Yes, I've dabbled a bit since founding Microsoft. Why do you ask?

  • I would love to see the auction where Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and the Walton family decide to bid on a rare coin. Especially if I owned the coin hehe.

I don't know about Gates, but wealth doesn't prevent a person from making the hobby as challenging as he likes. Even Bill Gates would have trouble putting together a superb collection of Bust Quarters by die variety. Especially if he demanded fair value. After all, nobody likes to feel like a dupe, even if he can afford paying any price.

Yes! I'd like to request a Wal-Mart here in town. Closest shopping center is 20 miles away and I hate driving!! Work on that for me please?

Bingo. Or how about early dollars? Do you really think the Pogues are gonna part with their nice stuff just to satisfy ol' Bill? image

Certainly a lot of coins would be available for him to buy, but a lot wouldn't. There'd be plenty of challenge....

I guess by challenge I meant financially. I know there are many coins that are hard to fins no matter what the money in your pocket looks like. image
