Learned the hard way-Never send coins Global Express!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sent a coin last December to France Global Express. The clerk at the post office told me I could insure the package. Can't remember whether I told him it was a coin or not. Coin got to French customs and never left. Filed claim in January and just received notice that coins are prohibited in International Express mail. I'm out the money and lesson learned. I hope I can save someone else from making the same mistake.

If you indeed paid for, and had it noted on your package that you purchased insurance for the said item, regardless of whether or not the insurance was supposed to, or could have been there, you have a leg to stand on. I'm not sure what the value of the package was, but if you have the postal receipt with the insurance noted as being paid for, the postal clerk made the error, and mislead you on your options for that package. I would contact first, your postmaster and raise this point, second St. Louis, which is in charge of the claims division (not sure if they are in charge of international claims).

If that postal clerk told you you couldn't insure that package, initially, you most likely would have chosen a different shipping option, correct?

If I knew the coin wouldn't be insured I would have sent it a different way. One thing that bothers me is that I had to fill out a customs form that clearly states the item was a coin and the package was still accepted by the post office. Maybe I'll try one more letter and see what happens. The coin was $550.
