That has always been a kick in the bum for me as well historygeek. I see so many sellers, including some of our own forum members, that have honest descriptions and the most beautiful, ORIGINAL coins for sale never getting the value of their items. Yet, some schmola with garbage images selling fake, copies and repos seem to get a higher dollar value for these common pieces of junk. It makes no sense to me what so ever. What kind of logic is that on the part of the buyer to pay large sums of money for a fake, copy or repo when they could have had the original coin for the same price from an honest seller?
I had a 1799 Brit halfpenny up for sale once. There were several on eBay at the same time, of course, but mine and one other were the only UNC's listed at the time.
Mine was ANACS MS63 RB, with lots of red. I had also wasted a lot of money doing a "featured auction" on it.
The other was a generic brown UNC, maybe a slider, raw, and not a featured auction.

Guess which coin sold for at least 50% higher.
