1990's Green Box Clad Proof Sets

There have been a few threads on the seeming price bulge for the 1999 silver set compaired to it's contemporaries but what about the 1990's clad sets.

The 1995 is not a first year set, nothing different from 1994(1992 and 1993 had different colored boxes) to 1998. Yet the mintages and prices don't line up. I added the Clad and Prestege sets in the first column as I understand the Prestege contained clad coins (could be wrong). Either way the graph is not linear. If you look at the price for the Kennedy's from these sets the same holds true.

Year W/Prestege W/O Prest.
1997 2,055,000 1,975,000 $40 to $45
1995 2,124,890 2,010,000 $50 to $60
1998 2,086,507 2,086,507 $21 to $30 (no prestege set)
1996 2,145,890 2,090,000 $12 to $16
1994 2,484,594 2,308,000 $15 to $20

Seems the clad sets, and Kennedy's, track the silver sets rather than mintage.

What am I missing?

Supposedly the 1995 sets were widely dispersed, (There may have been order limits in place that year, I don't remember.) and there aren't large groups available out there. This makes it more difficult for dealers to acquire them in quantity and higher prices had to be offered in order to shake them loose. (Personally I find this theory questionable because if there was enough demand from small order placers in 1995 to account for 2 million sets, why aren't the surrounding years when large orders could be placed much higher? Are there realy hundreds of thousands of people out therewho won't place orders unless there are limits on the number of sets you can order?)

This is the same theory that is used to explain the high price of the 1999 sets as well. The 2 set order limit is the reason for the high price even though the mintage isn't that much different from the following years.

By the way the price of that 1995 is way down from it's high. At one time they were around $100 per set.

Conder101, thank you for the reply. The limit theory could be it but seems after eight years these would have dispersed more by now. But I admit I know not about this area though some formula probably exists. Also even with the 1995 set out of the lineup the 1996 set still stands out as undervalued. I guess time will tell.

    Thanks again for your input.
