Second PNG-ICTA grading services survey

In the Sept 6 Coin World is an article about a second survery done by PNG-ICTA (surprised this is the first I'm hearing about it). Results were bascially the same as their 2002 survery. They did add NTC to survery. Overall results:

Outstanding - none
Superior - PCGS NGC
Average - ANACS ICG
Poor - PCI SEGS
Unacceptable - ACG NTC

As before, they had 12 categories with various weighting to come to their conclusions.

I don't receive Coin World- what were the 12 categories, and how were they weighted??

Accuracy grading MS coins 15%
Accuracy grading circ coins 15%
Ability to detect altered, repaired, damaged, etc. 15%
Accuracy of all atrributions (color, surf, varieties...) 10%
Accuracy of modern coin grading 7%
Consistency of grading 7%
Grading guarantee 7%
Marketplace acceptance 7%
Customer service 5%
Collector benefits (pop reports, registries, etc) 5%
Quality of holder 5%
Cost 2%


And, no, I won't reproduce each score for each category.

yeah, the survey does nothing for me. i rate plastic "unacceptable" across the board. makes for a very e-z survey!

Do you think the adding of NTC is a good idea? How was this decided and why not add all the other "grading" companies.

While NTC received a low grade, it also gives them credibility as a grading company. I would have left them off.
