Heritage not wanting consignments??

tmot99tmot99 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭
I have a few coins that I have thought about consigning. I received an offer to consign form Heritage and in that I have seen good money for auctions similar to the coins I have been considering selling, I thought I would contact them. I sent a couple of emails with no reply. I have to assume that they aren't interested in consigning lots less $10,000 in total value.

Can anybody make any recommendations on another auction house that would be interested in a few coins that could bring in $8000-$10,000 bids?

Tmot99, rather than assuming they don't want your consignment (you might be correct and you might not) why not just give them a call?
  • I'd try speaking with someone on the phone. Emails can get lost or misdirected. I've seen plenty of items selling for far less than the figure you quote on Heritage, so they do sell items the rest of us can afford, not just ones for the mega rich.

Yep, call them. $10,000 worth of coins should not be dealt with via email, at least initially. Voice to voice communication is appropriate here.

I spoke directly with one of their reps at the ANA. I had a single sub-$1000 coin that I wanted to consign. He told me that while they are happy to sell coins of that kind, the minimum consignment is $5000. Ten $500 coins are okay, as long as the total consignment amounts to $5000 in value.

Consider asking a dealer to include your coins in a future consignment with Heritage, tagging along your consignment with a fellow forum member, or consigning your coins with a dealer. You may end up doing better with the latter. Good luck.

    If they're certified, try Ebay.

  • Call Heritage and ask for Jennifer Ashbury in Scott Reiters office. She has always been my ace in the hole. You might want to consider a dealer consigning them for you as they have deals in place that can garner a better percentage for you on a small lot.

  • Try the Goldbergs. They are good folks to deal with and take smaller consignments.
