Why do so many object to 10 day ebay auctions?

I never understood why...please enlighten me.

I don't object to them -- I just don't think they bring a higher sale price than the 7-day auctions, plus you have to wait longer until it's over. And the seller pays extra for it, too.

I personally think they are a waste as I have found that it makes no difference in how much is bid.

You can run identical coins for 5,7, and 10 days and they will bring the same.

I tend to pass on 10 day auctions because I don'e want to wait that long to see if I won!!

  • i've found it's too long a period and bidders lose interest when putting on a bid early in the auction. most bidders don't want to wait almost 2 weeks to see if they've won the item.

As a buyer, its TOUGH having to wait 10 days to snipe a coin.......I want it and I want it NOW! That's the only beef I have with 10 days auctions. As a seller, if I start one on a Thursday, the auction spans 2 weekends and still ends on a Sunday evening - which is prime time IMHO. And as far as the extra $.05 cost.......who cares!

That is my angle as well Craig. I remember once reading a comment by David Hall that, "...running Ebay auctions is very labor intensive." That may be the understatement of the year! So anyone with a lot of coins to auction, can spread out the time spent listing auctions by doing some of their listings as 10 day auctions starting on Wed. or Thurs. and still benefit from the auction ending on a weekend.
It's not so much that the few days of additional exposure will bring a higher closing price, it's just another way to avoid spending your weekend evenings sitting at the 'puter.

Thats why I schedule the start date for my auctions instead of doing a 10 day. Most people are impulse shoppers and dont want to wait that long. Unless you have a unique coin, they can probably find one similiar that ends sooner.

When I have a lot of coins to list it is worth the extra 10 cents to pick the start date. I may list coins in the middle of the night or whenever I have time. That way I can still spend time with the family.

I refuse to believe that ANY bidder bids prior to the last 10 minutes.

This thread is all commie propaganda.

  • Actually, I put what I consider to be my highest bid in early. You never know, the action might close at minimum, and you get a nice piece cheap. I do babysit the ones I really, really gotta have, though. I let about 90% of my bids fall off the map before the auction ends simply because I don't feel the item is worth bidding up anymore, but the ones that I think I can resubmit for a higher grade, resell quickly at a profit, or just look too nice to pass on, I'm right there in the last ten seconds sniping my arse off.
