You need to be a little more specific, I mean what are you trying to do here. But I will try to help you a little. I would only buy PCGS graded coins in any grade or NGC graded coins at the grade of 63 and above. Never buy raw or in junk slabs because there are too many counterfeits in these coins. That is unless you are very good at grading genuine coins and detecting counterfeit coins. Also many ms60,61,62 coins in other holders are hairlined and/or heavily bagmarked and would grade only au at PCGS or bodybag. As far as the coin itself, they usually look pretty good in 63 and above. I like the grade of 64 in the common dates at this time. I think it has the best long term value coupled with a very good looking coin if you stick to PCGS and NGC coins(if you can look at them in person).

Pretty much what Eagle said. The lower grade NGC stuff has been picked over and probably sent to PCGS. Once you get used to the series then maybe you can start looking at these slabs from some "hidden" gems. Plus, it isn't as bad for the $2.5 series as it is for the $5 series for NGC has a GLUT of these in lower grades that are just not nice coins. They must have got some sort of bulk submission of European gold at some point...just my guess. You should also be able to find some PQ MS62 pieces...they are around if you look hard enough.

Personally I collect these coins in AU grade -- they show very minimal wear and are very reasonably priced in AU (expect for the 1911-D). If you have a smaller budget, this is a great series to collect in circulated grades.

LUSTER in the fields is the key point for me with $2 1/2 and $5 indians in MS grades. mike
