I'm already hooked on them- join the crowd! One of the cool things about bust halves is that one can put whole collections of high grade circulated pieces without having to deal with plastic. I actually prefer shopping raw in this particular series........
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • Nice one.

    Yep, I'm hooked too.
  • Why the preference for raw coins on this series?

  • ...and do you guys have the Overton book? I'm seriously thinking about getting it.

<< <i>Why the preference for raw coins on this series? >>

    Two major reasons...

    1. In order to see the third side of the coin.
    2. The TPC's seem to be unable to properly grade and attribute them.

Yes, and I highly recommend it if you are going to try them further.

By the way, they ARE addictive!
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • OKbustchaser summed it up very nicely. Not being able to see the lettered edge is a real detriment to having the coin in a slab.

    guilty as charged.
  • They are very addicting with all the different varieties and die states you can go on forever and never get two pieces that look the same. If you get into them at all the Overton is a necessity, I have a copy of all three editions 1967, 1970 & 1990.
  • It's official, I'm hooked. The pics of Bust Halves in the other recent thread have me drooling. Off to Brent-Krueger to order the Overton book.

  • What's with all these people who are so big into the Halves? How bout Baby Busties? image But Halves are very popular right now... and maybe too much so... personally, I think there are more oppurtunities with the other denominations, because they are not as popular as the Halves... image Just my opinion though image

Welcome to the wacky world of busts. Just stay away from my 1827's!!!image

    And George,

The reason we don't go for the baby busties is that we are all considerably older than you and CAN"T SEE THEM!image

image yeah, you're probally right... I had to reattribute a coin I just got back... and didn't use a loop... boy, it is hard to attribute them with no magnification!! image But, when you blow them up to the size of my pictures up there, it's very easy to do the attributions then image
