Just back from PCGS

This was the coin that i thought would make a 62, but as you can see it didn't. My picture isn't the best either. Maybe some day i'll learn like the pros.

Wow! Pretty coin. I'd be proud to have that one in my Morgan set.
    When in doubt, don't.

Admittedly the scan is a *little* blurry, but not much -- and given that it's a condition rarity, I'm not surprised. The major services tend to be VERY conservative -- probably too much so -- with coins that are common at low grades but very valuable at higher grades (like this one). This looks better than 61 to me.

There really are no pros, just a lot of people who think they're pros. If you submit that coin to the pros 10 more times, it may come back 61 about 6 or 7 times, and 62 a few times, maybe even a bodybag once or twice.

Do you realize how many PCGS and NGC coins have been resubmitted and subsequently changed grades over the past 17 years......at least a million I would guess, maybe a lot more. Yeah........... pros, LOLOL

It sure looks better than MS61 in those images. I'd have guessed MS63. Is there something not showing well in the pics?

I'm wondering that, too. It looks no-brainer 62 and a good shot at 63 from the picture. The strike's not the greatest over the ear (but how many 1890s O-mint Morgans are?), but the surfaces are fairly mark-free from what I can see.

I'm willing to bet that this coin goes 62 if not 63 (or even 64!) if it's an ultra-common '98-O instead of a mint state rarity '97-O.

Yes guys, the 97-O is one of the dates that the pros.... 'er PCGS grade more conservatively than many other of the more common dates in the series. Again, if resubmitted enough times, it will probably make 62 unless heavily hairlined.

I would imagine the coins a bit more baggy than the images lead on.

Dragon's correct, that coin could grade 61, 62..............58.............tough call at that level.

How about a spread. $475 in 60, and $4000+ in 63. Price that one!

There appear to be some deep round gouges on Liberty's face. Is that the case?
