Ugly Frankies, eh? The third looks to be at least CAM - and if the pic is like those DCAM AH's you keep sniping, it oughta go DCAM! image

I thought you were a big Frankie guy, Russimage

Or maybe it's that cool 50's chick who's into the Frankies...image

    In the case of that 62 franklin, you're right- it's butt-ugly...... What's the premium on a non-cam 64 AH?

Just what is the premium on a non-cam AH? I bought an unopened 1964 proof set off eBay and there was an AH in it. How rare are these again?

I don't know how the heck Russ can see it's an AH from that scan. He must have some kind of super powers.image

I been paying attention to this for about 3 weeks now and even I can spot the hair and the truncated serif on the "I" in Liberty. Scary.

It is very condition dependent. A high percentage - much higher than the regular - are doggie POS coins. Many are milk spotted, and many more that are spot-free suffer from obverse hairlining.

Nice ones grading PR66 or better do bring a premium. For raw ones a true PR66 will bring $20 or so, (last one I sold on eBay brought $27), a PR67 $30 or so. Add about $10 for PCGS graded. This is compared to less than $10 for the regular variety at the same grades.

They aren't rare at all. I estimate that about 200,000 or so were minted and there's probably about 100,000 left. They are scarce in high grade and in cameo, and approach rare in true two sided deep cameo.

    It's glaringly obvious. image

    Thanks, Russ.

Ya' know, I'm having fun with these. I've started to look for 1964 proof sets everywhere I go.image
  • XpipedreamR,

You mean Hepkitty? I went to her website and she seems pretty cool to me. I liked some of the Frankies she had for sale, too. The first series I took a serious interest in was Frankies. I have a Whitman album about half full of VF-AU pieces. Maybe now that I know there is someone here who is seriously into them, I might finish it.

So many coins, so little cash. *Deep sigh* image

  • I could see the missing serif on the 'I' without even getting close to my screen. Not really interested, though. Too many Roosies to bid on.

It looks like a nice purple cent in the 62 proof set. If anyone buys this, and it is purple, I'll buy the 62 set at GS ask, despite the bad Franklin!

The '63 set looks kinda nice, actually. The cent and quarter could be nice surprises. I'd be really curious to see a proper photograph of those two. I still prefer to buy this stuff sight-seen, though.

Looks like you should get 10% for promoting them. image

Argh, dup post thanks to slow server!
  • Getting down to the wire on this set it would seem. But at $78 current bid are they worth it? image

I don't think so. I didn't think they were worth the $42 they were at when I posted this. (Otherwise, I'd have kept quiet. image )
