Look at the sharpness of the obverse rim between 3:00 and 7:00. That and other 'tells' gives this one up as possibly (always tough to tell by a small scan) being a reproduction.
You're right, Jon, they'd pull it. If they'd only be so vigilant on the outright fraud auctions!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
It's probably a police officer or federal agent doing a fraud investigation. Realistically speaking, would someone really put a 1795 Eagle in an ACG holder?? Would they list it for sale on Ebay?? Not likely. If it was authentic, it would be in a PCGS holder and would be sold through Heritage or Bowers and Merena. In other words, if it was real, it would get more respect.
