Same card in 2 different sets?

I was just curious if the same card (serial number) can be allowed into multiple sets? For example, say you have a card for both a year (1971 for example) set and also a player set (Pete Rose for example), or do you have to have 2 different cards to satisfy the set demands?

Just a curious thought I had.

  • Yes - a card can be in multiple sets. As an example, I have one 1973 Archie Manning in the Manning Player Sets, Saints 1973 Team set, and 1973 Topps set (i.e. 1 card - 3 sets).

A card can go in as many sets as it is applicable, as long as all the sets are registered by the same user. For instance, you couldn't add a 71 Rose to your 1971 set, and let a friend add it to his Rose set.

I think the card that holds the record for most sets is the Dr J/Magic Johnson/Larry Bird card

    1980-1981 Topps Bird/Erving/Johnson:

    1. '80-'81 Topps
    2. HOF Players
    3 & 4. HOF Rookies (Bird, Johnson)
    5. Bird Basic set
    6. Bird Master set
    7. Johnson Basic set
    8. Johnson Master set
    9. Erving Basic set
    10. Erving Master set
    11 & 12. NBA Top 50 Rookies (Bird, Johnson)
    13. All-Time Celtics
    14. All-Time Lakers
    15. Top 200 Sportscards

as informed to me by a friend. I had originally thought the Goudey Ruth (any of them) would have the most sets at 12.
