I'm thinking hijacked account, myself. Anyone who sells that many coins would know that they are costing themselves thousands by having crappy pictures.

It's not a hijacked account. The imaging is par for the course for this seller.

My guess is that they mistakenly listed the coin at no reserve. I emailed them about it earlier, but have not heard back yet.

I think I saw the coin last week in Pittsburgh but can't remember with 100% certainty.

I just can't imagine legitimate, even semi-knowledgeable sellers selling something like this on eBay with a $25 starting bid and horrid pictures. This is puzzling.

I thought that was a little unusual for them.

  • That coin deserves a new holder with no stickers or scratches or gunk on it.

I agree. Who needs marketing crap on a Proof-67 1877 IHC, for crying out loud? If that coin won't sell itself with just a decent picture and little hype, almost nothing will.

I can assure this dealer/seller is no fool. The pics may be crappy, but I'm positive it's the real deal.

    Incredible.

Any idea from anybody why this (experienced!!) seller would not have put this coin in a major auction???

I've bought several proof coins from them. The coins are typically better than the photos, but the descriptions are usually spot on. I have been pleased with their merchandise and the service.

When you consider that NGC is consistently one grade higher than PCGS on Proof IHC's and that this speciman is particularly poorly struck (look at the first few feathers - pretty bad for a proof), the coin is well on it's way towards an appropriate price.

Starting at $25 is a good ploy to attract attention - you can always cancel the auction and claim "prior sale".

I wonder if this seller has any PCGS boxes for sale? Oh wait, without even looking I bet he does in EVERY INAPPROPRIATE section of ebay that he can think of.
