The World Series of Grading results are now posted on the PCGS home page. Congratulations to pro division winner, Jim Halperin, collector division winner, Bruce Morelan, and Young Numismatist winners, Keith Moon, Eric Hogan, and William Robins.
Check out the list of the 40 coins used in the pro and collector division. This was a very hard test and there were $800,000 worth of coins involved.
We'll do it again next year...it was a lot of fun!

Where can we find the complete results and coins used on the test?
Mark
Everyone, including me, graded it MS65BN (or RB) except Eric, who called it MS64BN. After the seminar it was submitted and here is the result:
A very impressive Young Numismatist.
(sorry the coin sold at the show)
Were you able to hire any of the top graders?
David G.

<< <i>What does QT mean in the results? >>
Questionable toning.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
<< <i>I'm still smarting (stupiding?) over a couple of blunders, but it was still a fun contest. >>
David! What Andy really means is; less counterfeits and more Franklin Mint medals!
And geez, next time go easy with the counterfeits.....I'm just a Darksider, you know.
Also, a hardy congrats to Bruce on the win and I hope to give it another try next year if PCGS is so disposed for another contest.
Doug...Thanks for posting all of the coins. I agree with Ziggy that Halperin's results are scary. The 1797 half and Cincinatti counterfeits were very good and you wouldn't look twice at them on the bourse floor. Halperin totally nailed this test! This was an extremely difficult test. I don't think I could have scored 70 if I would have taken it. The winners were truly winners and my hat is off to all of them.
David
It would be very cool if we all could see good photos of the contest coins, especially the counterfeits. Would be a learning experience for all of us.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
BTW, what was the damage on the 1818 large cent?
If you've seen Halperin on the bourse, it's no surprise. The guy is intense!
Dave - can I buy the 1868 IHC?? Is it the one in your ad??

There was some pretty heavy corrosion on the reverse. I thought it was just barely gradeable (as a 62/63) but I was wrong.

....same here!! oh well!
PS - After having viewed a lot of the others, can I please buy that 1878 trade dollar as a PF67CAM?
TDN - Get in line, dude!
I also graded the coin 68CAM, but I knew it was a mistake as soon as I walked away from the test. (It was one of two coins I knew I missed.) The coin is incredible looking and would easily bring 2-3 times 67 bid at auction, but the big smudge in the lower left obverse field was too severe for PCGS to grade the coin higher than seven. I think maybe some of us were standing on the wrong side of the street when we graded the coin.

But your odds of success definitely increase if you know what you're doing.

2 out of top 5 in collector group are from wild card finalists.
Does that tell you anything?
1) 12.5% are counterfeits
2) 22.5% are BodyBags (including counterfeits)
3) 50% 20th century coins, 40% 19th century coins and 10% 18th century coins
4) 12.5% coins are circulated (including 1797 fake 50c and 1801 tooled silver dollar)
5) 45% gold coins, 40% silver coins, 12.5% copper coins and 2.5% nickel
6) 32.5% under $1000, 27.5% between $1K and $10K, 22.5% between $10K and $100K and 5% over $100K (12.5% counterfeits have no value)
From the data, I think PCGS did a good job to select coins except there are too many gold coins (45%) and 25% of the 40 coins are between 1890-1932.
That their strength was in classic, high end coins and counterfeit detection - more so than moderns? The mix of coins was certainly different.
As a side note, was anyone else only given 45 minutes? I see in the writeup it was supposed to be an hour.
They gave me exact 45 minutes.
They gave me exact 45 minutes.
MaCrimmon...The damage on the 1818 large cent was retooled hair...David
Can we have a list of the coins the youngsters had to grade?? I'm kinda interested in it....

He died long enough ago that he has come back as a YN, I guess he has some good karma from his last go-round!
