Exonumia question................

I have a "Good for" token, on the one side is says, "Fiore Coal & Oil Co." around the periphery and has "EU" in the center, on the other side it has a "Phillips 66" logo in the center and says, "Good for 50 Gallons" around the periphery.

So, can I still turn it in for 50 gallons of gas?

Jim

You know Jim, I have been on a long car ride with you! You don't need anymore gas!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Think the "50 gallons" would more probably be heating oil?

    Sounds like a neat token.

I'm don't need anymore gas? Dude, you've been sleeping with them penis coins under your pillow too long, they're affecting your brain (there is a joke in there somewhere).

    BTW, BITE ME!!!

LM, It is a cool looking token. I wish I could say I "TH'd" it but it was in a box of "stuff" I picked-up at an estate sale last month.

It is in at least AU and may go UNC with an acetone dip. I think it is made of silver and it has a lot of luster.

I have a very thin, even flimsy, aluminum uniface token that says nothing but "ORIENT COAL" on it. I got it from a friend's father, who I believe used to work for that coal company in the 1930's or '40's. My friend's dad, who's now passed on, said they used to sprinkle these little aluminum thingies into a load of coal, and they could be burned with the coal. Sort of a way of trademarking a big batch of coal.

Fiore Coal & Oil Co. sounds like local town or city operator that sold Phillips 66 products i.e fuel oil. It may have been a token they were giving as some sales promotion. You know something like " Purchase X amount of fuel oil and will give you a token good for 50 gallons."
I know up here we have an outfit that does that. If you buy a certain amount of fuel oil in the off season they were giving a coupon good towards 25 gallons to use when the cold sets in.

It will be interesting to see what response you get from Phillips. It may take awhile image

    Edit: For wording image

MSD61's theory sounds like a winner to me. image

PS- I still wonder what the "EU" is, though.

    Hey- NG- got pics?
