I can pin down the exact historical context of two of the relics I dug to a two-week period in June of 1863!

Very interesting. I find your finds fascinating. Makes me wish I could go out and find something. That mystery object sort of looks like a hair clip.

    Thanks.

Those "twanger" thingies still baffle me. I'm nearly certain they are a part of some kind of musical instrument, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what. It ain't part of a harmonica, I don't think- we find lots of pieces of brass harmonica frames on these sites.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the "mystery" object is a collar stay. I'm not sure if they had such a thing back then, but if they did...

Hmm. That's an interesting theory. I'll have to check into that.

We've found lots of buttons and even a little flatiron that was shaped like a cloven hoof (for ironing around coat buttons). Some sort of uniform-related attribution for the mystery items would partly explain why they are such a common find.

Great thread your Lordship. Why did they call those bullets minies and not maxies is a puzzle. I knew that they were large caliber bullets but putting that Lincoln cent next to one you can really see the hell those poor guys must have caught when they got hit with something that large.
Being in the proximity where all this history went down sounds neat.
I do too like the movie "Glory" it is one of my favorite Civil War battle films. I think the Harlem Boys Choir along the music of James Horner really adds tremendous feeling to this movie to make it a haunting and a soul stirring classic. Any history nut has got to like and see this film. Keep up the good writing and although I don't treasure hunt your posts and relic finds are very enjoyable reading. Not forgetting to mention that your regular coin postings are entertaining as well. image
