Ebay sellers reply to my complaint

Even if you don't collect currency, you might appreciate this ebay sellers reply to me today. I am sending back a note with a hole in it.

<< <i>Dear Mark, The hole your talking about is a punch mark that is supposed to be there. To the best of our knowledge this mark is not a flaw but was put there to help in the manufacturing process. We would have mentioned it if it were a pin hole. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with this item. We of course are happy to take the return and we will refund the money as soon as we get the item back from you. If you were unaware that this was the case, and you now wish to keep the item that is more than fine with us. Thank you for your concern we look forward to hearing from you. >>

  • Shoot, if it were less than a $100 win. I'd keep the note as appreciation of the sellers honesty.

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • The sellers honesty? When is it honest to sell a note with a picture that hides a hole and then tell the buyer that the hole is an acceptable part of the printing process? I've got a good deal on some land if your interested. It "honestly" a real good deal.

I never buy any ungraded material from Ebay if the seller doesn't have a return policy.

Well, you did say even if you "don't collect currency" please respond.
You know better, but some people may have actually believed the sellers explanation of a "punch mark". That is what the seller was betting on. Just another case where it pays to be well informed about what you collect.
    Good luck with your return.

I used to collect fractional currency years ago and thought their explanation quite funny.image

No, chops mark are put there by a third party to verify the piece. In this instance the mint actually put the hole there to help in the manufacturing process. Maybe they like to hang them on hooks while the ink is drying so having the hole aids in that process.

    Is this a fact?

  • Its a bunch of BS. Sometimes banks would make bundles like 20 - 25centers that they could sell for $5. Instead of the paper currency bands we use today they would use a safety pin and poke through all of them. This considerable decreases the value of the note and under ALL established grading guidelines is material and needs to be stated in the description.

Whats more he used a paper backround the same color as the note but a little larger than the note which made it difficult to establish the true margin (I saw through that one) but it hid the hole except under very large magnification (didn't catch that one).

Its just not a GEM Uncirculated.

The hole is in the middle of the inside corner decoration in the lower right side. Compare the top corner inside decoration and the bottom and you'll notice the "black" center seen in the top is missing in the bottom. Once you know where to look, you can easily spot it on the back side as well, but as already stated, using the "paper" background does a good job of hiding it.
  • No offense, but I checked the link before I scrolled down far enough to where the hole was pointed out, and it took me about 10 seconds of having my face right up to the monitor to find the hole. The disruption of the design in that corner is pretty obvious to me. It was sneaky of the seller to use paper the same color as that the note was printed on to hide whether the note had been trimmed or miscut, but it doesn't really hide the hole to me. Maybe I'm just too nitpicky, though.

  • Its easier to find the hole when your looking for one.

    Newmismatist:

    NO not swamp land,

The muddy water and marsh your talking about is a feature that is supposed to be there. To the best of our knowledge this water is not a flaw but was put there to help in the land clearing process. We would have mentioned it if it were swamp land..
