Just added my 1969 OPC Baseball set!

image

I am proud to say I just added my 1969 OPC Baseball set to the registry!
It is now 53+% complete with a GPA of 7.15. It has been a long, hard
road just to get this far! I will be sending some material in off of the recent
auction of 1969 OPC's that I won and this will hopefully jump the set even
further. I really want to complete this set as I have always enjoyed the big
OPC oval on the back of these cards, not to mention the different color as well!
I do have some duplicates of some, NOT FOR SALE, but would trade for other
1969 OPC PSA graded cards! I don't come on here much, but, would be happy to
help with any questions anyone has about this set. I know most of the cards
fairly well, as I have been buying and selling cards from this set since about
1977. In any event, GOOD LUCK to all who are pursuing these very tough
cards!

  • Congratulations Tony! Awesome achievement so far. These cards are really tough in any grade but to acquire and grade PSA 6 and above becomes a real challenge. I wish you the best.
    Email sent.

  • THANKS RAY !
  • I'd be interested in trading. I have a decent array of 1965-1980 OPC, including some extra '69s. Congrats on the set, I just purchased mine raw from a fellow board member. If you bought those '69s from diconti23 a few weeks back, then I was the one bidding against you (sorry.) Do you collect other OPC BB years? From 1969, I'm looking for:

    #1 in NM
    Clemente PSA 6 or better
    McLain w/o factory crease
    #169 in EX
    graded stars

I'm looking forward to seeing your set on the Registry.

    Congrats Tony.

I must say that I am quite perplexed by o-pee-chee baseball.

I too am an opc baseball collector.

I see on the POP reports from 1965-1973 that some of the
major stars and rookies have some good submissions.

For example, a Schmidt rookie has about 55 submissions,
and then some of the other cards have no more than 10.
    Some cards only have 1.

I see that a 1971 Nolan Ryan has a decent amount of cards
submitted than the rest of the cards in that set.

So my feeling right now is that someone still has a good
supply of these cards sitting around.

I'm sure you have some good pointers on this dilemma.

Anyway, I may decide to start submitting more of my
cards for grading. Maybe I'll start one set and keep the rest raw.
I can't see spending 4 grand on plastic for a 660 card set.
    Especially when I am a C.C.S. (closet-card-sniffer)

Also, the o/c on a PSA 9 doesn't bother me when it comes to
opeechee baseball. I wonder how you feel about getting
    the qualifier on your cards.

    67standup! I have 1969 Clemente PSA 7 (2 pcs), PSA 8 and PSA 9 OC (a real beauty I might add!).
McLain is nearly impossible without the factory crease, very similar to Ernie Banks and Aparicio.
The Maury Wills card is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to find with 50/50 centering in grades above EX.

I have to check on the others, I may have many of them, but probably did not submit for one of
    a few reasons:

    1) WAAAAY off center
    2) Factory crease ( I actually call it a printers wrinkle as it really
happens in the inking and printing process, where the ink is
still wet when made and the cardboard actually "turns up the
paper slightly to cause the "WRINKLE")-But just an opinion, not fact.
    3) Would not meet at LEAST EX/MT 6 unless a star or semi-star
    4) Of ALL of the sets or partial sets I have purchased, even some
of the commons have excessive wear or bumped corners
    5) I may already has an (8) or better of a certain card and don't
bother to send in, unless needed, or obviously if it will grade
    out to MINT 9!

Send me an email with the want list and tell me what ones you
have to trade, as I have already had 5 emails with cards being
    offered to me!

Its ok bidding against me (GRRRRRRRRR!-LOL) ! We always see
that happen whenever great cards (In our opinion of course in
this case!) come up for auction!

Check out my set when it gets put up by the Registry folks and
especially the ones I am MOST proud of--MY PSA MINT 9's !!!!!!

Warm regards and best of luck, Tony

PS---I am frequently gone, so don't get angry if I don't respond
promptly to emails. I really miss putting cards up for auction,
but have been very very busy as of late!

  • It's great to see some interest in these cards. I too have always liked the diferent color backs and the subtle differences from the Topps sets. Trying to find the cards, let alone in top shape, is a challenge in itself. I have been putting together sets from 1965- 1977 for years. as far as condition goes, let's just say I enjoy the cards! While it is no where near the size of the regular 69 set, my passion has been the deckles from this year. I took one look at those pointy corners and I was hooked on trying to put together a quality set. I'm submitting an Aparicio to finish the set, but it will need to be upgraded. I'm also trying to upgrade the Santo. Of course, I hope to upgrade the 8s & 9s! image

Will continue to update and add cards to this set.
Look forward to talking to all the collectors out there
who enjoy the real challenge of putting together
OPC sets from 1965-1970 or beyond!

Anyone wishes to share info or ask questions, I
would be happy to answer, but once again as I
said, I am frequently gone, so don't be upset if
I do not answer you right away!

    Warmest regards to all,
