Poll:Will the Lewis&Clark Coin and Pouch set sell out?

HTubbsHTubbs Posts: 4,138 ✭✭✭
I voted yes, although in my opinion it's and absolute rip-off!
I mean come on,you pay $120(+$4.95 P&H).All you get is a Proof L&C $(value $39) and a leather pouch.I'm sure it's a nice pouch but for $81?????
But I just know people are going to go out and waste their money buying as many as they canimage.
Oh, well that's my opinion.

I don't know, man. I usually pick up the Mint issues...but who really wants a POUCH?

It'll break the chain of the world's longest-lived Mint sucker, but I may actually pass this bow-wow up.

I think the lackluster aftermarket performance of the L&C C&C sets will deter people from loading up on the pouch thing. So I voted no, no sellout.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • I voted that it would sell out, but I am having a hard time talking myself into buying one. I bought a Botanic Gradens set at the ANA and now have all of the C&C sets. Hate to miss this one, but it is a bunch over priced, IMO.

I do not think it will sell out. Who want to spend that much money on a pouch? Not me. I guess someone will buy it tho.
  • I voted 'No' simply because of the volumes that the mint cranks out coins these days. I've seen coins drop to less than half their issue price in a few months because the mint overproduced then dumped when the demand they anticipated failed to materialize. 1982 Washington Commemorative Halves, for everyone!!!

    Semper,

Wow, what a monster!! That Ike is sweet. I'd be on it if I didn't have one already.

Those Washington Commem are hard to get in MS69! Very expensive if you fine one.
  • Semper,

    You mean this??

They can't be too hard since I found one within minutes of you mentioning how hard they were to find. They are a bit pricey, though.

  • What I wonder is if anyone will try to get all twelve pouches. If they haven't changed things the pouches were supposed to be handmade by members of the twelve tribes that Lewis and Clark encountered. The pouch for each tribe was to be different, and the number of pouches made by each tribe is not the same. So there will be rare pouches and common pouches. (Of course with 50,000 sets and 12 different pouches, even the common ones are going to be limited in number.

Yes, it's a bad deal but I think it will sell out in 14 days or less. I also think they will be worth more on the aftermarket.

Wow,I didn't know there were 12 different pouches. But still come on,it's just freakin' cowhide!
  • It will sell out but as others have observed, it's a rip off.

I think I've had it with the Mint. The prices on the Proof Platinums are ridiculous as well. image

I think this offering will sell out, but not because of the coin. I think the limited number produced and the pouch will sell more to people who want collectables instead of people who collect coins.

Time will tell, but that is my guess.

  • I have to agree with theNumish...I think it will be very quick to sell-out, just because more folks are paying attention to what the mint puts out these days, due to the statehood quarters (which, IMHO, started the latest rally in the coin market). Also, I am pretty sure that I read in a mint brochure that each pouch is like a snowflake - no 2 are going to be exactly alike , and that will add fuel to the aftermarket - maybe even lead to that new grading designation keets talked about - RPP - really pretty pouch!image
